A Brief History

Towamensing Trails (pronounced "Tow A Men Sing") meaning "Nature's Wonder" was the creation of Broadscope, Inc. in the mid-1960's. The 2900 acre parcel was sub-divided into 5 sections of half acre parcels and 1 section of 1½ acre building sites.  Each section of the community has its own protective covenants and was surveyed independent of each section.

In the mid-1970's Broadscope received what is believed to be the last permit given for a man-made lake in Pennsylvania.  The lake is 190 acres, has 3½ miles of shoreline and is 35' deep at its deepest point. The lake is stocked every year and has excellent fishing (a PA state license is required). There are no motor boats allowed, electric motors, canoes, sail boats, row boats, etc. are allowed and there are rentals and storage areas available. There is also an excellent trout stream running throughout the property.

All areas in the trails that are not appropriate for building are made available for recreational purposes (picnics, hiking, green areas, etc.).

A 4000 Sq. Ft. Clubhouse was constructed on the lake in the late 1970's and features a bar and lounge which has a private bar license and serves alcohol to members (there is a small fee for property owners to join; this is a state requirement). There is a snack bar (refurbished in 1993), a game room with pool table, video games, locker rooms for men and women (so even lot owners may enjoy a day here) and a heated outdoor pool with kiddie pool (re-done in 1993). There is also a swimming area with a sand beach.

The community and amenities were completed in the early 1980's and the developer turned it over to the property owners' association and it is operated by a Board of Directors whom are voted on by all property owners.
